Why did racist murderers think it was okay to lynch people, is the real question. Using the term “white people” infers that everybody with a certain skin tone thinks or acts the same. That’s nonsense.

The issue is that one abitrary group considered that another was a threat to them, and acted accordingly. Racism, like all prejudice, is not rational. The people who committed these terrible crimes did so because of the nonsense belief that people whose skin was a different shade to their own were inferior and, as mentioned, a threat.

People tend to kill what they fear, not so much what they hate.

Racism is generally born of ignorance, and is handed down. We are born without prejudices inherent in us; these are all added later.
