World Cup 2026: Why Late Penalty Substitutions Are Failing Teams in Shootouts

What was the biggest Hollywood scandal of the 1990s?

In 1995, actor Hugh Grant was arrested in Los Angeles for soliciting a prostitute, an incident that caused a media frenzy and threatened to derail his career.

At the time, Grant was one of Hollywood's most promising young stars, thanks to his breakout roles in "Four Weddings and a Funeral" and "Sense and Sensibility." But his reputation took a serious hit after news of the scandal broke.

Grant's arrest occurred in the early hours of June 27, 1995, when police spotted him in a car with sex worker Divine Brown on Sunset Boulevard. The actor was taken into custody and later released on $1,000 bail. The story was quickly picked up by the media, and photos of Grant and Brown (who was also arrested) were splashed across the front pages of newspapers around the world.

In the aftermath of the scandal, Grant made a series of public apologies, acknowledging that he had made a mistake and expressing his regret for his actions. "I think you know in life pretty much what's a good thing to do and what's a bad thing, and I did a bad thing," he said in an appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno."
