Did the Catholic marry a same sex couple?

Two women who managed to fool the Catholic

Yes they did, these two were married catholically, back in 1901.

Now you'll say, "Why same-sex? They're husband and wife, aren't they?"

They are not. They are two women, Elisa Sánchez Loriga and Marcela Gracia Ibeas.

It was in Galicia, Elisa had her hair cut on the wedding day and wore a suit.

In the marriage certificate she was called "Mario" and ""Mario" was introduced beforehand as Marcela's cousin , who wanted to be baptized before the wedding.

Marcela was pregnant at that time, by a man she had slept with.

It is said that she did this to make the marriage with "Mario" more plausible.

After that, the two were pursued by the judiciary because “nice” neighbors, who had smelled a rat, "tipped off" the press about the case. The press ran a cover story about the wedding.

Marcela and Elisa were excommunicated and they left for Portugal.

They were caught there and were extradited.

A court that actually ruled "secular" acquitted the two.

Marcela and Elisa emigrated to South America, where their trail is lost.

A good hundred years later, same-sex marriage was legalized in Spain.

But the same-sex marriage ceremony in the Catholic Church remained the only one, at least in Spain.
