One of the threats to education in Zambia today are coin operated gambling machines called bonanza.These gambling machines are not only found in bars but also in shops and markets where under age school going children participate  in gambling without restrictions. 

School going children mostly in shanty compounds are concerntrating more on piece works and gambling instead of putting their focus on education. Some have dropped out of school and some have become truants.

The bulk of bonanza gambling machines are owned and rented out by Chinese nationals. This type of foreign investment is said to be immoral.
