On this date in 1985, the musical and humanitarian project, USA for Africa, released the single “We Are The World,” co-written by Michael and Lionel Richie. The song became an anthem for global unity. Michael performed it with Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross, who are both on the single, along with Aretha Franklin, as part of the US Presidential inauguration celebration in 1993.
